What to Bring to Your Notary Appointment

  1. The Documents

    Without a physical copy of the documents, the notarization cannot be carried out. For those that are unable to print the douments in advance of the appointment, The Bay Area Notary is more than happy to help. For all print requests, we ask that you provide 24 - 48 hour advance notice, and that you email a printable pdf version of the documents to: contact@thebayareanotary.com

  2. Identification

    At the time of the notarization, the notary public must verify the identity of all signers; this can be done a number of different ways.

    The signer may present any one of the following forms of ID:

    1. State issued drivers license or nondriver’s ID (does not have to be issued by the state of California)

    2. U.S. passport

    3. Canadian or Mexican driver’s license issued by an appropriate public agency

    4. U.S. military ID

    5. Valid foreign passport from the signer’s country of citizenship

    6. Employee ID issued by an agency or office of a California city, county, or city and county

    7. Identification card issued by a federally recognized tribal government

    8. Inmate identification card issued by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation if the inmate is in prison or any form of inmate identification issued by a sheriff’s department if the inmate is in custody in a local detention facility

    9. Valid consular identification document issued by a consulate from the applicant’s country of citizenship that meets specific requirements

    If none of the above referenced forms of ID are available ask your notary public about what other options may be available.

  3. Payment

    Here at the Bay Area Notary, we accept: cash, card, electronic payment (i.e. Zelle, Cash App, Apple Pay), chashier’s checks and money orders.
